How it works and good to know
xlsx, xlsm, csv and tsv are read directly; for older xls, ods and xlsb the SheetJS reader (Apache-2.0) is downloaded only when such a file is opened. Files can be up to 20 MB, and up to 1 million cells with values per workbook and 256 columns per sheet are shown — if a file is bigger, the screen says how far it got. Number formats such as dates, percentages and thousands separators, merged cells, frozen panes, column widths and hidden rows and columns are shown as in Excel. Formulas aren’t recalculated; the results saved in the file are shown. Macros never run. CSV encoding (UTF-8, Korean CP949/EUC-KR, Japanese Shift_JIS) is detected, and you can pick it yourself. Find searches the text shown in every sheet. CSV export saves the current sheet as UTF-8 with a BOM. Password-protected files can’t be opened. Files are opened only in this browser and never sent to a server.
