How it works and good to know
Based on South Korea’s Inheritance and Gift Tax Act in force in 2026 (rates 10–50%, ₩50 million child deduction, ₩500 million lump-sum deduction; the 2024 reform bill did not pass). Gift deductions over 10 years are ₩600 million from a spouse, ₩50 million from parents or grandparents (₩20 million for minors), ₩50 million from children and ₩10 million from other relatives, plus the ₩100 million marriage/childbirth deduction, a 30% generation-skipping surcharge (40% for minors receiving over ₩2 billion) and the 3% filing credit. For inheritance, the larger of basic + personal deductions or the ₩500 million lump sum (not available when the spouse is the only heir), the spouse deduction (at least ₩500 million, limited by the legal share and ₩3 billion), financial asset and cohabited home deductions and the overall deduction limit apply. Assets are not valued and this is not tax advice.
