    How to use

Everything you enter is processed only in this browser.

    1. 01

Press Turn mic on and allow access

    2. 02

Speak and watch the level bar and waveform move

    3. 03

Record a short clip to listen back, and compare different settings

How it works and good to know

Shows the average (RMS) and maximum (peak) input level in dBFS, and warns when the signal hits the maximum (clipping). Changing the input device, echo cancellation, noise suppression or auto gain reconnects with the new settings and shows the values the browser actually applied. Recordings are 5 or 10 seconds, played back only in this browser and never saved; use the Voice Recorder to keep a file. Needs a secure connection (HTTPS) and microphone permission.

    No sound?
    1. Browser permission — In the lock icon (site settings) left of the address bar, set the microphone to ‘Allow’ and refresh. Once you click ‘Block’, the browser won’t ask again.
    2. OS permission — On Windows, turn on ‘Let desktop apps access your microphone’ in Settings › Privacy › Microphone. On macOS, enable your browser in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
    3. Choose the input device — Pick the microphone you actually speak into under ‘Input device’ above. Also check the input device and input volume in your OS sound settings.
    4. Other apps — If a video-call or recording app holds the microphone, it can’t connect. Close the app and try again.
    5. Hardware — Check the headset mute switch, the cable (4-pole TRRS plug), and the Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth earbuds may drop in sound quality while the mic is in use.
    6. The bar moves but the recording is quiet — Turn on ‘Auto gain control’ or raise the OS input volume. Noise suppression can also remove quiet sounds, so try turning it off to compare.
