Timer, Stopwatch, Pomodoro & Alarm: complete guide
Walk through the steps and examples, or jump straight to the topic you need.
At a glance
- Timer range
- You can set anything from 1 second to 24 hours. If you enter more than 60 in minutes or seconds, it's simply added up.
- Stopwatch display
- Shows down to 1/100 of a second, and switches to hours:minutes:seconds from one hour.
- Laps
- Keeps up to 100 laps and shows both the lap time and the total time.
- Time base
- Recalculated every time from the device clock, not by counting screen refreshes.
- Independent state
- The timer, stopwatch, Pomodoro and alarm are separate records, so using one doesn't affect the others. Time that's running keeps running even if you switch to another tool at the top.
- Pomodoro
- Defaults to 25 minutes of focus and 5 minutes of rest, with a 15 minute long break after every four focus sessions. You can change the durations, the interval, auto-start and sound.
- Alarm
- Rings at the time you set. It only rings while this tab is open, and if the device sleeps it may be late or not ring. Snooze for 5 minutes is supported.
- Notifications
- Browser notifications need permission and a secure connection. If they can't be used, the reason is shown on screen.
- Sound
- Plays three short beeps. In environments where sound can't play, you're alerted on screen only.
- Saving
- Settings and records aren't saved. They disappear when you leave the page.
How to use Timer, Stopwatch, Pomodoro & Alarm
Set the timer
Press the 1, 3, 5 or 25 minute button, or type hours, minutes and seconds. Values over 60, like 90 minutes, are accepted as they are. Once it's running the inputs are locked, and Reset lets you set it again.
Start, and pause when you need to
Pause freezes the remaining time, and Resume continues after subtracting the time you were paused. Reset returns to the time you originally set.
Record laps with the stopwatch
You can only record a lap while it's running. New laps stack on top, and once there are more than two laps the fastest and slowest are marked.
Get the finish alert
When time is up you're alerted on screen and by sound. Pomodoro alerts you at every phase change and the alarm at the time you set, and the alarm only rings while the tab is open. Press Allow notifications to be alerted even while you're on another tab. If it finished while the screen was frozen, it shows the real finish time and tells you how late you checked.
What it’s good for
Set a time for studying, cooking or workouts and get alerted
Tap the 1, 3, 5 or 25 minute button, or type hours, minutes and seconds yourself. Once it's running you can pause, resume and reset. When time is up you get an on-screen message and a sound, and if you allow browser notifications you'll be alerted even while you're on another tab.
Why the time stays right when you switch tabs or the screen turns off
Counting down by screen refreshes slows down when a tab is inactive. This timer remembers the moment it should finish and recalculates against your device's clock every time. The value doesn't drift after waking from sleep, and if it already finished while the screen was frozen, it shows the real finish time and tells you how late you checked.

When the result isn’t what you expected
No alert when I'm on another tab
Browser notifications need permission. If you see an Allow notifications button, press it. If you've already blocked them, change notifications to Allow in the site settings next to the address bar. Even without permission, you'll get a finished message and sound when you return to the screen.
There's no sound
Browsers can't play sound until you've interacted with the page. If you started with the Start button, sound will play. If it still doesn't, check the device volume and whether the tab is muted. In environments where sound can't play, the screen tells you so.
Does time stop when I turn off my phone screen?
No. It's calculated from the finish time, so turning the screen back on shows the exact remaining time. The alert sound may be late while the screen is off, so when you come back after it finishes, you're told how late you checked.
The Lap button won't press
You can only record laps while the stopwatch is running. After reaching 100 you can't add more, so reset and start again.
Key terms
- Lap
- A segment marker you record while measuring. It keeps both the lap time and the total time since the start.
- Total time
- The full time from the moment you started the stopwatch to that lap.
- Wall-clock based
- Calculated by looking at the device's actual time. The time doesn't drift even if the screen freezes.
Timer, Stopwatch, Pomodoro & Alarm FAQ
How do I use the Pomodoro?
Pick Pomodoro and press Start. It alternates 25 minutes of focus with 5 minute breaks, and after every four focus sessions you get a 15 minute long break. You can change the durations and the long-break interval, and choose whether the next phase starts automatically and whether a sound plays when the phase changes.
Does the alarm ring if I close the window?
No. It's an alarm that runs inside your browser, so it only rings while this tab is open, and if your computer or phone goes to sleep it may ring late or not at all. For important appointments, set your phone's built-in alarm as well.
Can I use the timer and stopwatch together?
Yes. The four tools are independent of each other. You can time your work with the stopwatch while setting a timer or Pomodoro separately, and switching to another tool at the top doesn't stop the time that's running.
I'm not getting notifications
Browser notifications need your permission. If permission is missing or blocked, you'll be alerted on screen and by sound, and the screen shows why notifications can't be used. Notifications only work on a secure connection (HTTPS).
Is my history saved?
No. Timer, Pomodoro and alarm settings and lap records exist only on this screen and disappear when you leave the page.
Can I set several timers at once?
On one screen you use one each of timer, stopwatch, Pomodoro and alarm. If you need more, open another tab. Each tab keeps its own records.
What is the 25 minute button?
It's the common focus length for Pomodoro, so it's there for one-tap use. To alternate focus and rest automatically, pick Pomodoro at the top.
Can I save or export the records?
You can copy stopwatch laps as a table with the lap, segment and total times. It doesn't save to a file and records disappear when you leave the screen, so copy any values you need.
