How it works and good to know
The image is reduced to the chosen number of colors (k-means; in logo mode blended edge colors are dropped), then the outline of each connected area of one color is traced with straight lines and curves to build the SVG. Black line art is split into black and white by a brightness threshold (automatic Otsu method at first). Accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF up to 20 MB. To stay fast the long side is traced at 1,600 px for logos, 2,000 px for line art and 1,000 px for art, and the SVG opens at the original size. Remove background drops one color that covers at least 60% of the edges. Images with smooth gradients, such as photos, become a few steps of flat color and the file can get large. Outline tracing uses imagetracerjs 1.2.6 (public domain, Unlicense), and images are never sent to a server.
