How it works and good to know
Uses two models converted to ONNX from the official Real-ESRGAN weights (BSD-3-Clause, © 2021 Xintao Wang) — realesr-general-x4v3 for photos (2.4 MB) and RealESRGAN_x4plus_anime_6B for art/anime (9.0 MB). The model is downloaded once on first use and runs in this browser; images are never sent to a server. Files up to 25 MB; the long side can be up to 2,048 px for 2× and 1,024 px for 4× (results up to 4,096 px). The image is processed in overlapping tiles that are blended back together, 2× is made by halving the 4× result exactly, and transparency is enlarged with bicubic interpolation instead of AI. Without graphics acceleration (WebGPU) the standard engine is used and large images can take a few minutes; the tile count and time left are shown. AI invents plausible detail that was not in the original, so do not use it for ID, certificate or evidence photos.
