How it works and good to know
Takes one video file up to 4 GB and re-encodes it as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio (browsers that cannot encode AAC use another audio format MP4 can hold). Target size mode counts 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, keeps a 6% margin and divides by the length to set the bitrate; if the result is still over the target, it lowers the bitrate by the overshoot and compresses once more. Auto resolution picks the largest size (never above the original) that keeps at least 0.04 bits per pixel per frame. Quality mode uses 0.1, 0.065 or 0.04 bits per pixel per frame (High, Medium, Low) and never exceeds 90% of the original bitrate. Videos above 30 FPS are lowered to 30 FPS by default. The file is read a piece at a time and never sent to a server, but the result is held in memory, so results are limited to 1,000 MB. Long videos can take longer than their running time; if memory runs out, the tool stops and suggests a lower resolution or splitting the video. You can cancel at any time.
